X & Y coordinates in Sociogram

I collected data via the Network Canvas Interviewer a few years back. I included a Sociogram page, where participants clicked and dragged each alter on the default concentric circles provided by NC (with “You” in the center of the circle). I have the x and y positions of each alter, but I am unsure what the coordinates for the “You” are. In other words, if I want to compute distance between “You” and each placed alter, what is my reference coordinate point for “You”. Thanks!

Hi @MTiv,

Welcome to our community and thanks for your question!

The x and y layout coordinates on the Sociogram are measured in normalized positions relative to the top left of the screen (0/0 is the absolute top left position, and 1/1 is the absolute bottom right). Unless explicit in your particular protocol, the ego (i.e., “You”) is typically implied at the central point (0.5,0.5) as the default coordinate reference.

I hope that helps!
