Triple Carry Forward

Hi Everyone,

I am developing a network survey in which I want to ask the participant about which resources are important to you. The options are related to data, administration and capacity building. Then the participant chooses one or multiple then based on that more options appear related to the option they selected which are much more specific. Then for each option I want to carry forward the choice and ask them from which source or platform were you able to get this resource or help for example :- email list, website, workshops, meetings, etc.

Is this possible to do in network canvas and if yes can you suggest how.
Also if its possible can I do this also after asking them to name important people and doing this for each person?

Looking forward to your responses.

Thank you so much!

Hello Taha!

Thanks for the question! This is actually something we were discussing recently.

So the short answer is that there is currently no way to automatically generate stages for each of the sources that the participant identifies. However, you can create multiple follow up stages manually, and then use the network filtering and skip logic functionalities to show those stages only if relevant, and to only show a subset of alters.

So basically your protocol would be something like this:

  • Resource generator (categorical variable with a,b,c as possible values).
  • Resource interpreter for A configured to skip if A doesnt exist on any nodes in the network. Using filtering to only show nodes where A is included as a value.
  • Resource interpreter for B, configured as above but for B.
  • Resource interpreter for C, configured above, but for C.

In the future, we hope to be able to automatically generate stages for scenarios such as this, but that feature will likely only be available as part of our next project.

Hope this helps!
