Adding variables

Hi everyone! I am currently using Network Canvas for my Master’s thesis. First of all, thank you for this amazing app. Second, I just changed my pc so I went to download Architect again, but now I can’t add any variable. So when I click on “Select variable” when adding a new question, nothing happens. I tried on another computer and faced the same issue. I don’t know if its me or something happened.

Update: I have done some additional troubleshooting.

  • The issue occurs in both Architect Classic 6.5.4 and 6.6.1.

  • I tested it on two different Mac computers and the same issue occurs.

  • I also tested a completely new/blank protocol, so it does not seem to be related to my existing protocol.

  • Other controls, including “Manage Codebook” and skip logic, work correctly.

  • The problem seems specifically related to the variable selector: clicking “Select Variable” or “Change Variable” does nothing. No variable-selection window/dropdown opens.

  • I also tested the Intel version of Architect 6.6.1 using Rosetta and obtained the same result.

Hi @laura_correa - Welcome to the community, and thank you so much for the kind words. I’m really sorry to hear about this issue.

We are looking into it as I write this, and will get back to you ASAP if we find a solution or a cause.

We have found the problem. It looks like the variable picker is showing behind the dialog that is open.

We are working on a fix for this. Sorry again for the trouble!

In the meantime, I have two suggestions:

  1. Version 6.5.3 seems to be working correctly. You can download it from here: https://github.com/complexdatacollective/Architect/releases/download/v6.5.3/Network.Canvas.Architect-6.5.3.dmg

  2. You could try using our new versions of Interviewer and Architect (my reccomendation). You can open your existing protocol in the new Architect and it will be automatically upgraded, and then you can edit it from your web browser without installing anything. Just visit https://architect.networkcanvas.com. Please note that if you use the new Architect and change your protocol, you will need to use the new version of Interviewer too (https://interviewer.networkcanvas.com). The new apps work exactly the same way as the old ones, but are much faster, more secure, and modern.
